AIADMK legal advisor seeks anticipatory bail
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI: All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’s Rajya Sabha Member and legal advisor of the party, N. Jothi, has moved the Madras High Court seeking anticipatory bail.
He apprehended arrest in connection with the allegation that he had caused loss to the exchequer by travelling to Delhi and staying there at Government’s cost to attend the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal proceedings.
When the petition came up before Justice T. Sudanthiram on Monday, senior counsel and former Additional Advocate-General A.L. Somayaji submitted that though no specific offence had been committed by Mr. Jothi, there were reasons to believe that he could be “falsely implicated or harassed” by the CB-CID.
Additional Public Prosecutor N.R. Elango informed the court that no case had been registered against Mr. Jothi.
In a signed statement, the State Public Prosecutor Raja. Elango said: “On the basis of the objection raised by the government advocate, the judge today [Monday], without granting anticipatory bail to Mr. Jothi, adjourned the matter to November 29.”
The statement added that a petition filed by advocate Amarnath Rao seeking registration of a case against Mr. Jothi was pending before the High Court.
Seven judges recused themselves from hearing the case and it is now posted before Mr. Justice Sudanthiram, Mr. Elango said.
