Pilgrimage jubilee fete to end on December 19

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The platinum jubilee celebrations of the Sivagiri pilgrimage will come to a close on December 19.

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, founder of the Art of Living movement, is scheduled to inaugurate the valedictory function at the Sivagiri Madhom. An agricultural, industrial, science, medical and information technology exhibition will be organised in connection with the celebrations.

Swami Prakasananda, president of the Sri Narayana Dharma Sanghom Trust; Swami Rithambharananda, general secretary; and Swami Sachithananda, secretary of the jubilee committee, told a press conference here on Tuesday that the rites prior to the annual pilgrimage would begin on December 20.

Sri Narayana institutions across the country would organise programmes to herald the pilgrimage.

They said thousands of children would attend a Balajana Sangamam on December 22. The children would also participate in a World Parliament of Religions to be held at Sivagiri. Competitions on the life and works of Sri Narayana Guru would also be organised.

A literary meeting will be held on December 25 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Mahakavi Kumaran Asan’s famed work ‘Veenapoovu.’ A musical performance on Asan’s poetry will also be organised.

A series of spiritual discourses will be held from December 26 to 29. As many as 10 meetings will be organised from December 30 to January 1. The procession to herald the pilgrimage will be held on December 31.
