Tourist assistance service launched in Puri

Six persons pressed into service

They are provided cell phones and a bike


BHUBANESWAR: The Puri district administration in association with the Puri Beach Development Council, the local police and the Department of Tourism has introduced the much-needed tourist assistance service on the sea beach in the pilgrims’ paradise of Puri.

Six persons have been pressed into service on the beach to provide instant assistance to the tourists, informed the Council secretary and the district tourist officer Mr.S.K.Patnaik. They have been specifically instructed to guide the visitors who are venturing into the treacherous sea here that often has taken toll on the lives of ignorant swimmers, he pointed out.

Clad in uniforms and carrying identity cards, the personnel are being made available on the beach between 5 to 6 in the morning and 3 to 10 in the evening, the officer elaborated and added that the team has been provided cell phones and a motor bike to stay connected with the local police. They have also been provided torch lights for their night vigil, it was learnt.

While a team of three assistants has been patrolling on the beach between Diagbareni to hotel New Sea Hawk, the other has been looking after the shore between Dalmiya Atithi Vihar and Digabareni.

The team will report to sea beach police station daily. They have also been advised to duly guide the tourists and pilgrims to seek the help of the police, temple administration and tourism officials. The development council that is coordinating the development of this temple town is being headed by the Revenue Divisional Commissioner and chief temple administrator Suresh Chandra Mohapatra.
