Chitram gets a second life

WITH HIS WORKS: Francis Xavier at Chitram Art Gallery in the city on Wednesday. –

Chitram Art Gallery, after a period of inactivity, is back on its feet. The ‘second life’ of this prime centre on MG Road in the city is being ushered in with an exhibition of paintings by Francis Xavier.

The gallery’s chief spokesperson Ramachandran Nair is upbeat and hopes that the patronising crowd of discerning art lovers would flock to the gallery soon.

It is greenery all through the paintings of Francis Xavier, who has presented images that appear and disappear at the same time, but insists upon the unending continuum of appearance.

He had drawn richly from locations in and around the city, with Kumbalanghi village adoring the pride of place. The show will be on till December 3.
