Markets in district headquarters wear festive look

KORAPUT: Market places in the district headquarters of Koraput were packed with tribal women selling some minor forest products and other utilities that were required for performing puja on Thursday, the first of the month of Margasir. There were bundles of wild leaves, fruits and flowers tied together, Kangu, pieces of sugarcane, banana leaves, sacred grass, new rice and bundles of new paddy. However, it was not like this before.

It was a difficult task few years ago for the heads of the houses to search all these things from the backyards of neighbouring houses, nearby mountains and forests. But with rapid urbanisation, the scope of getting these things had become dearer. But looking at the necessities of the urbanites the rural men and women have started bringing them to the market on such special occasions.
