Ordinance to check pollution

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government will promulgate an ordinance to punish those dumping waste in public places and water bodies, Local Administration Minister Paloli Mohammed Kutty has said. Chairing a high-level meeting held here on Wednesday to discuss means for preventing the pollution caused by dumping waste in water bodies and public places, Mr. Kutty said stringent provisions including imprisonment would be incorporated in the ordinance. Polluting public places and water bodies would be treated as a criminal offence, he said.

Water Resources Minister N.K. Premachandran, Local Administration Principal Secretary S.M. Vijayanand and Law Department officials attended the meeting.
