‘Pavala vaddi’ only for prompt payers’

Staff Reporter

Sangareddy: Project Director of District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) Srinivasa Baba has said that self-help groups can avail of the ‘Pavala vaddi’ benefit only if repayments on interest during the past six months have been regular.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, he said that 17,217 SHGs out of the 25,000 had availed of Rs. 300-crore loans with the benefit of ‘Pavala vaddi’ during the current financial year. Only 311 groups were declared defaulters with an outstanding amount of Rs 1.1 crore, which otherwise had a record of 99 percent recovery rate. The average recovery rate per group in the district stood at Rs 1.1 lakh, while last year it was only Rs 79,000.

The Mr. Srinivas Baba said that 10 procurement centres established by the SHGs had procured 14,953 quintals of paddy. He said that 36 centres were supposed to be opened, but the arrivals of paddy was slow and farmers also awaited hike in MSP.
