Guntur
GUNTUR: Cotton Corporation of India will commence purchases at its platforms in the Agricultural Market Yard premises on Thursday. Joint Collector Kantilal Dande will formally inaugurate the purchases on the Guntur yard premises on Thursday morning. Auctions on the remaining 10 platforms would begin in the coming week. The CCI had not taken a stand on starting new platforms at five centres as demanded by farmers on Tuesday. An official from CCI, S.K. Baba will supervise the purchases here. He has been designated to make the purchases at the platforms in Guntur and Nandigama. He said that cotton farmers coming to the yard premises should bring along with them, farmer pattadar passbooks. In case they do not have the passbooks, they had to get an authentication certificate from the village secretary. The practice had been put in place to eliminate the scourge of middlemen, he said. Replying to a query whether the CCI would pay higher price for quality cotton, he said that C.C.I would pay competitive prices on par with private buyers to quality cotton and this time it was fixed at Rs.2,050 per quintal.
