KANNUR: M.C.V. Bhattathiripad, president of the Kerala Senior Citizens Forum (KSCF), died here late on Tuesday night. He was 86. Founder president of the forum, Bhattathiripad, who was a lawyer at the Koothuparamba bar for decades, died at his son’s house at Pallikunnu. He is survived by his wife, two sons and three daughters. Born in a Brahmin family at Neerveli in Mangattidam panchayat, near Koothuparamba, Bhattathiripad had been in the forefront of the campaign for the welfare of senior citizens in the State. The forum was started at Koothuparamba in 1996 under his initiative. Today, it has grown to a State-level organisation having units in all districts. Bhattathiripad was concerned about the abuse of the aged, including physical assault and that aimed at causing emotional pain. He highlighted the plight of the elderly in their families and outside. He also initiated a campaign for setting up separate geriatric wings in hospitals for the care of the aged. Apart from an autobiography ‘Njan Kadannu Vanna Vazhikal,’ he authored a few books to highlight the problems faced by the elderly in society.
