AIIMS doctors plan to disrupt OPD services
New Delhi: The passage of the controversial Bill fixing the retirement age of the AIIMS Director at 65 on Wednesday evoked instant reaction from medicos of the institute, who decided to disrupt OPD services from Thursday.
The OPD services will remain suspended until the AIIMS (Amendment) Bill, 2007 is signed by President Pratibha Patil. Thereafter, the doctors will adopt a severer mode of protest, Kumar Harsh, president, Resident Doctors Association, said.
He alleged that the Bill was a “blatant attempt made by Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss to secure the ouster of Director P. Venugopal.”
“The passage of the Bill could finally lead to the shutdown of the AIIMS,” Mr. Harsh said.
Pro-Venugopal medicos at the AIIMS will hold a meeting on Thursday to decide their future course of action. — PTI
