Students showcase their poetic skills

BANGALORE: Spandana, a collection of Kannada poems, penned by the students of Florence Public School, R.T. Nagar was released recently. The programme was held as part of the Kannada Rajyothsava celebrations and was aimed at promoting Kannada among students. Former president of Kannada Sahitya Parishat Sa. Shi. Marulayya released the book. Former director of Kannada Samskruthi Ilaakhe Markandaparum Srinivas was the chief guest.

He stressed the need to inculcate a reading habit among children.

He also appreciated the school management for encouraging students to write in Kannada. F.A. Kudroli, chairman of the institution presided over the function.

Principal Abida was present.

Sports meet

The annual sports meet of National Public School, Rajajinagar, was held recently. The meet began with a colourful march past by the members of different houses.

This was followed by a display by the school band which created a festive atmosphere. Spectacular displays by the students in colourful attire included “Taekkalari”, an interesting fusion of two different styles of martial arts: Taekwondo and Kalaripayattu.

There was also a display of aerobics, a yoga demonstration and ‘Serve and Smash’, a display with badminton rackets.

The overall championship for the track events and games was bagged by Centaur House.

K.P. Gopalakrishna, founder chairman, National Public Schools, in his address emphasised the importance of sports and communication skills in daily life.

The winners of various events received medals and certificates. Phoenix House walked away with the top honours in march past.

Sapling plantation

A sampling plantation programme was organised at Ryan International School, Kundalahalli, recently, to keep the surroundings green and clean. A.F. Pinto, chairman of the Ryan Group of International Schools, planted 25 saplings of seven different varieties in the vicinity of the school. A nature-lover himself, Mr. Pinto spoke on the benefits of a green environment. He also said that planting one sapling by each member of society would ensure a cleaner and greener environment.
