WINNERS ALL: Y.Kiron, CEO of Suchirindia, with the Asia Cup winning Indian hockey team on Wednesday.

HYDERABAD: It was a rare sight for Hyderabadis. The victorious Asia Cup hockey team led by Prabodh Tirkey and Ramon Magsaysay Award winner Sandeep Pandey were felicitated on the same platform at Ravindra Bharathi.

For Suchirindia Group, which believes in the winning spirit, it could not have chosen someone better for the honour.

One gentleman is fighting adversity to bring smiles on the faces of the underprivileged and the other a team which gave fresh impetus to the national sport following their magnificent title-triumph.

‘Sankalp Divas’

Dr. Y.Kiron, Chief Executive Officer of Suchirindia, chose to celebrate his birthday as ‘Sankalp Divas’ and share the dais with specially-challenged children from different foundations, even donating about Rs. 2 lakhs (in cash and kind). “I deem it as a social obligation to at least give back something to the needy in the society,” he said.

Mr. Sandeep Pandey was felicitated and presented a cheque for Rs. 25,000 while each member of the Indian hockey team was allotted a 240 sq. yard plot in the Koral Reef project besides a gold bracelet worth Rs. 25,000 for their magnificent show in the recent past.

Responding to the felicitations, Mr. Sandeep Pandey felt it was an honour to be given such a treatment.

“We appeal to Dr. Kiron to lend total support to the campaign on Right to Information Act to create necessary awareness among the masses on the benefits they can get from the Government and other organisations,” he said, adding, “His efforts are a lesson for other corporate groups to part with some percentage of their income for the betterment of underprivileged.”

India chief coach Joaqim Carlvaho said the entire Indian hockey team was moved by this gesture.

“We can assure you all that we will not leave any stone unturned to realise the ultimate goal of winning an Olympic gold,” he said amidst lusty cheers from the gathering.

Hocket team captain Prabodh Tirkey hoped that this gesture would inspire them to perform better.

Birthday gift

Dr. Kiron also received a special birthday gift from the team – a hockey stick autographed by all members of the Asia Cup winning team.
