Natarajan Gulzar, Commissioner, Vijayawada Municipal Corporation: “It is not possible to regularise the occupations on hills and hillslopes, as there are many judgments of the Supreme Court and High Court against such regularisations. We have been providing basic civic services to the dwellers of hills and hillslopes by collecting a nominal superstructure tax from them. But servicing them is a costly affair, especially in terms of water supply and electricity. Ideally, they should be located elsewhere, provided land is available for construction of houses for them. But, we’re not thinking about such plans at this moment."
