THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A nine-day book fair involving celebrated writers from India and abroad will be organised in the city by the Kerala State Institute for Children’s Literature from December 22 to 30 in connection with the Grand Kerala Shopping festival. The book fair, modelled on the lines of similar exhibitions in New Delhi and Kolkata, will become an annual fixture with Thiruvananthapuram playing the permanent host for the event. One of the highlights of the proposed event will be a series of talks on ‘My Kerala, My Dream,’ and ‘My life, My Writing.’ There will also be book releases and discussions on all the nine days. A workshop on children’s literature to be held at the Kanakakkunnu palace in connection with fair will be attended by leading children’s writers, Aravind Kumar, Aravind Gupta and Paro Anand. There will be a separate workshop for employees working in various Malayalam publications as part of the event. The fair will also be accompanied by cultural programmes at the Nishagandhi auditorium. An organising committee with Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan as the chief patron and Culture Minister M.A. Baby as chairman was constituted at a meeting held in the city on Wednesday. The meeting also witnessed the launch of the website of the Institute ( www.ksicl.org).Some of the other members of the organising committee include V. Sivankutty, MLA, Institute Director Rubin Dcruz, Mayor C. Jayan Babu, Panniyan Raveendran, MP, O.N.V. Kurup and Ministers for Finance, Tourism, Law and Revenue.
