NEW DELHI: With members expressing dissatisfaction over the government stand on the violence in Assam last weekend, Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee on Wednesday announced in the House that the issue could be raised as a calling attention motion on Monday to facilitate a discussion.

The announcement came after Kiren Rijiju (BJP) raised the matter again.

On Tuesday, there was a verbal duel between him and Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs B. K. Handique in the wake of Home Minister Shivraj Patil’s suo motu statement on the violence.

On Wednesday, Mr. Rijiju said that if the government was serious about its commitment to the North-East, either the Prime Minister or UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi would have visited the State by now.
