Double for Aravind

CHENNAI: N. Aravind (YMIA) claimed a double winning the men’s singles and doubles titles (with B. Ramanathan) in the three-day Larsen and Toubro-Tiruvallur District table tennis tournament, which concluded here on Monday.

Mr. V.B. Gadgil, Executive Vice-President, Larsen and Toubro Limited, gave away the prizes.

The results:

Men’s singles (final): N. Aravind (YMIA) bt A. Devaraj (YMIA) 10-12, 3-11, 11-6, 11-5, 14-12, 10-12, 11-8.

Semifinals: Aravind bt Ramanathan (Brakes India) 11-9, 11-7, 8-11, 11-13, 11-5; Devaraj bt K. Balakrishnan (SBI) 11-4, 9-11, 11-3, 11-7, 11-8.

Doubles final: Aravind-Ramanathan bt Devaraj-Mukesh Sankar (YMIA) 11-5, 11-8, 11-9. Semifinals: Devaraj-Sankar bt Ramakrishnan-Elumalai 12-10, 7-11, 11-7, 11-9; Aravind-Ramanathan bt Chandran-Balakrishnan 10-12, 9-11, 11-7, 11-7, 11-5.

Non-medallist (final): Ramanathan bt M.B. Aravind 11-9, 12-10, 11-9.

Semifinals: M.B. Aravind bt Balakrishnan (SBI) 11-5, 11-7, 7-11, 11-5; Ramanathan bt P.V. Ramakrishnan 11-7, 11-6, 11-6.

Kailasam-Rajkumar pair wins

The pair of S. Kailasam and R. Rajkumar won the T. Nagar Social Club Open pairs bridge event at the club premises here on Tuesday, with a score of 70.45 per cent in the East-West direction.

R. Kannan and N. Niranjan duo won in the North-South direction with a score of 69.32 per cent.

Other results:

North-South: 2. S. Krishnan-L. Subramanian (61.74 per cent), 3. Mrs. Srihari-Sunil Verghese (58.85).

East-West: 2. Britto-Narayan Iyer (64.77), 3. Mrs. Sushi-Mrs. Alka Gaur (58.52).

State weightlifting

The Tamil Nadu Weightlifting Association will organise the 58th State senior weightlifting championship for men, and the 22nd championship for women, on December 1 and 2, at the Hall of Weightlifting, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

About 150 participants are expected to take part in the event.

The championship will help in selecting the men’s and women’s senior teams for the National championships at Bhubaneswar from December 19 to 23.
