Rs. 3000-crore bridges and roads scheme launched in Haryana

Rajesh Ahuja

BHIWANI: Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday said Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda had given a push to usher in rapid economic and social transformation in the State.

She was addressing a public rally here to mark the birth anniversary of the former Haryana Agriculture Minister, Surender Singh, who was killed in a helicopter crash in Uttar Pradesh in March 2005.

Mr. Hooda announced that a polytechnic college would be set up here in memory of the former Chief Minister, Bansi Lal.

An ITI, named after Surender Singh, would come up at Tosham.

Earlier, Ms.Gandhi launched a Rs.3,000-crore Rajiv Gandhi Bridges and Roads Infrastructure Development Programme for Haryana from Charkhi Dadri. She also laid the foundation stone for two projects.

She released a booklet, Rajiv Gandhi Bridges & Roads Infrastructure Development Programme, brought out by the Haryana PWD (Buildings and Roads).

While thanking the Dadri people for supporting the Congress in the last Assembly elections, she hoped that these projects would be completed at the earliest.

Mr. Hooda said construction of new roads, over bridges, remodelling of the existing ones and widening and strengthening of roads would be taken up under the Rajiv Gandhi Bridges and Roads Infrastructure Programme. It would be completed by March 2010.
