Plea to Centre on Malaysian Tamils issue

CHENNAI: The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the Congress have urged the Centre to intervene in the issue of discrimination against Tamils in Malaysia.
In a statement, AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa said it was saddening to know that the plight of several Malaysian Tamils remained what it was in respect of their ancestors. Ms. Jayalalithaa said all the arrested persons should be released.
In a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president M. Krishnasswamy said the demand of those who took part in Sunday’s agitation in Malaysia was that the people of Tamil origin should be given equal opportunities in employment.
