Brave heart: A participant climbing a rock atop Chamundi Hills in Mysore during the adventure camp organised for the differently abled.

MYSORE: “If opportunities come our way, we too can show to the world that we are no inferior to others”. These were the words of Revanna, a visually challenged trainee at the National Association of Blind, after taking part in an adventure camp organised atop Chamundi Hills here a couple of days back.

Like Revanna, the other participants, including three visually challenged and 20 speech and hearing impaired persons, could not hold their joy after scaling the hills from the foot with the support of volunteers.

It was the day which they would cherish forever as the camp, organised in view of Kannada Rajyotsav, had several adventure activities such as chimney climbing, rappelling etc.

The Rotary Mysore Adventure Corps and International Academy of Mountaineering and Allied Sports had organised the camp to promote the spirit of adventure sports among the special students from National Association for Blind, Yadavgiri here, which gives vocational training to the visually and speech and hearing impaired youth.

Programmes

Secretary of Rotary Mysore Sunil Kumar, who spoke after the camp concluded, said he would organise a training programme in computers for the students of the National Association of Blind shortly.

Also, the organisers are planning to hold activities such as archery, bird watching, rock climbing and a cricket match between volunteers and the differently abled students in December.
