Udyog melas to be organised in all tier 2 cities Health check-up camps planned for workers Bangalore: The Principal Secretary, Department of Labour, B.L. Sridhar, on Thursday assured representatives of various trades and industries that the six agencies under the department would provide them with assistance to improve the skills of workmen and their health and productivity. He was speaking at an interactive session with trade and industry representatives organised by the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI). He said that each of the six agencies would have a designated public relations officer to deal with enquiries and applications. Designated officersThe officers to be contacted for information or assistance are: J.T. Jinkalappa, Deputy Labour Commissioner (phone 22458850, 94482-20849); T. Prabhakar, Deputy Director, Department of Employment and Training (22291736, 98444-29530); B.S. Ramachandra, Joint Director, Department of Factories and Boilers (22441646, 93412-34851); D.O. Gangadhara Swamy, Directorate of ESI Medical Services (23391874, 94497-51320); Sanjeevaiah, Administrative Officer, Karnataka Labour Welfare Board (22235333); and R. Anuradha, Assistant Labour Commissioner, Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (22721603, 94483-14920). Mr. Sridhar said that udyog melas would be held in all tier 2 cities such as Mangalore, Mysore, Gulbarga, Hubli and Belgaum, apart from Bangalore. The ESI would hold health check-up camps in industrial areas such as Peenya and Whitefield in Bangalore, and in Gulbarga. Workers would be given free medicines and treatment under the ESI scheme.
