JAIPUR: The Rajasthan Government will take steps to ensure that all those seeking work under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme get employment for a minimum of 100 days in a year. State Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Kalual Gujjar said at a workshop of Block Development Officers at Indira Gandhi Panchayati Raj Sansthan here on Wednesday that the NREGS, having a rich potential to transform the development process, was being implemented effectively in several districts. Mr. Gujjar said the collective efforts of Panchayati Raj representatives and officers had led to successful execution of the scheme, which would be extended to all the districts in the State from April 1 next year. The BDOs will act as Programme Officers for NREGS. The Minister asked the BDOs to complete registration of the deserving families, prepare job cards and identify works to be taken up in advance in the districts being included in NREGS. “The scheme will stop migration from villages and help create useful infrastructure in the rural areas,” he said. Mr. Gujjar suggested that works relating to water harvesting, construction of rural roads and pasture development be taken up on priority under the scheme. Over 150 BDOs from 20 districts attended the three-day training programme.
