JAIPUR: The State Department of Tourism is all geared up to hard-sell Rajasthan as the most preferred tourist destination at the two-day partnership summit, “Resurgent Rajasthan”, starting here this Friday. The Department plans to focus on the tourism infrastructure already in place in the State, and new projects that are being undertaken to further strengthen the infrastructure. “We will highlight the road accessibility of Rajasthan. The State has five national highways (NH-8, NH-11, NH-12, NH-14 and NH-15), which have either four lanes or six lanes. Furthermore, Rajasthan has five mega highways managed by the State administration. An extensive railway network which already exists has been further augmented by the Shatabdi Express train on the Golden Triangle,” notes Minister of State for Tourism, Usha Punia. Work on the 637 km of the North–South and East-West road corridor in Rajasthan would be completed by December 2008. The State highways slated to become four lanes are: Jaipur-Reengas, Kishangarh-Beawar, Jaipur-Deoli, Beawar-Pali, Sawai Madhopur and Alwar-Bhartpur-Bandikui. There is much to talk about air connectivity as well. In terms of air connectivity, Jaipur airport would have a new international terminal building by July next year. The runway at the airport would be extended from 9,000 feet to 11,500 feet. The airport at Udaipur would become the second international airport of Rajasthan in January 2008. There is a plan to extend its runway up to 9,000 feet, Ms. Punia said. All the major airlines are already operating within the State and a new airport in Kota is proposed on the Kota-Jhalawar road for which the survey has already started. A new green-field airport will be located at Kishangarh near Ajmer. Presently Rajasthan has 14 airstrips for leasing out. Taking into account the growth potential of the sector the State has set up a Civil Aviation Corporation. “Resurgent Rajasthan” will provide an opportunity to the representatives of the State Government, leading entrepreneurs, as well as leading companies from Rajasthan to meet and interact. .
