150 NCC cadets train at combined annual training camp
Staff Reporter
On target: NCC cadets practising rifle firing during the ongoing combined and annual training camp for cadets from Adilabad, Nizamabad, Karimnagar and Medak districts.
ADILABAD: It is at the firing ‘range’ that NCC cadets also learn that no ‘latitude’ will be available when it comes to actual combat with the enemy in case they end up with a career in the Indian Army. The option will not vary more than kill or be killed.
“Familiarity with fire arms and some practice will help the cadets stand in good stead during selections to the Army. Firing from a fire arm also needs great concentration that helps cadets be focussed on aims and objectives later in life,” observed Lt. Col. Indrajit Roy, Commanding Officer of the 32 (Andhra) Battalion, NCC at Adilabad, the host of the ongoing 10-day combined and annual training camp for NCC cadets from Adilabad, Nizamabad, Karimnagar and Medak districts. 150 cadets in three shifts every day get to handle a comparatively harmless 0.22 rifle at the firing range at the aerodrome here as part of the training at the camp. Before that, they undergo a session of theory on different aspects connected with use of a fire arm. Though five rounds are not sufficient for a cadet to become a ‘sharp shooter’, the occasion certainly gives him an idea on the gamut.
Cadets are evaluated after each session of target practice at the 25 mts range based on the hits. “Consistency as a factor is also evaluated,” pointed out Lt. Col. Roy. “To ensure safety of the cadets we depute either a Non Commissioned Officer or Junior Commissioned Officer at the firing point,” he added.
