KOLKATA: A coordinating officer appointed by the West Bengal government will be liaising between the local administration and the Central Reserve Police Force deployed in Nandigram , the State’s Home Secretary, Prasad Ranjan Ray, said here on Thursday. There have been certain functional “misunderstandings” between the local administration and the CRPF authorities but with a senior official as coordinating officer “we hope that the minor problems will be solved”, he said. A three-member delegation of the State leadership of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) visited Nandigram on Tuesday. A member of the team, Shyamal Chakravarty, brought to the notice of the Chief Minister, Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, allegations by local people of the CRPF colluding with Trinamool Congress leaders in attacking those who had returned to their villages after spending months in relief camps . It was the first visit of senior CPI(M) leaders to the area after violence broke out eleven months ago. Following the outbreak of violence in the area in late October, the State had requested the Centre to deploy CRPF personnel in Nandigram. Thereafter, the first batch of the CRPF had been deployed on November 12. . Five companies and an all-women company of the paramilitary force are presently posted in the area. Asked for how long the CRPF was expected to stay , Mr. Ray said that the State government had asked for them being deployed for three months.
