Dola, Anjali exude confidence

NEW DELHI: A week after winning the World recurve title, archer Dola Banerjee is confident of bringing home an Olympic medal next year from Beijing.

“We have not won any Olympic medal in archery, so any medal is good,” said the soft-spoken Bengal girl during a function to announce the Samsung Scholarship Program for seven Olympic qualifiers.

Shooters Manavjit Singh Sandhu, Rajyavardhan Rathore, Abhinav Bindra, Anjali Bhagwat, Avneet Kaur Sidhu, boxer Ajit Lakra and Dola were honoured as “Samsung Olympic Ratnas.” Rathore could not attend the function. All seven sportspersons will receive support from Samsung to train and prepare for the Games.

Dola went on to say that luck played a big role in an archer’s success. “It depends on the scores shot on that particular day. You can win with 105 or 110 but sometimes lose even after shooting more.”

She is now looking forward to return to her training after a series of felicitation functions. Meanwhile, Anjali eyes the upcoming 11th Asian shooting championship (December 3 to 13) in Kuwait to fine-tune her skills in three-position ahead of the Olympics.

“It will be one last chance for those who have not qualified for the Games to make the grade.” — Special Correspondent
