NALGONDA: Twelve persons of Narsimhulugudem of Munagal mandal have been arrested on charges of murdering the CPI (M) leader Bonta Sreenivasa Reddy at Mukundapuram of Munagal mandal on November 22. Police launched a manhunt for one of the main accused Veeraswamy, the Suryapet DSP K.Ashok Reddy told reporters on Thursday. Though the names of only seven persons figured in the complaint, police arrested five more persons after a thorough investigation into the case, the DSP claimed. The arrested included, Koppula Lakshminarayana, Sheik Ramjan, Sheik Jaleel, Naramsetti Nageswar Rao, Naramsetti Narsaiah, Chintakuntla Koteswar Rao, Chintakuntla Prabhudas, Musugu Anjaneyulu, Sheik Nagul Meera, Koppula John, Koppula Mangaiah and Sheik Nazir. They all hail from Narasimhulugudem and were closely associated with the ruling party, police said. Sreenivasa Reddy had been reportedly murdered to avenge the killings of Koppula Ramachandraiah in 1997 and Sheik Khasim Khan in 2002, the DSP said. “Sreenivasa Reddy’s murder was an off shoot of a fierce battle to establish supremacy over Narasimhulugudem,” the DSP maintained. Police found that a plot to kill Sreenivasa Reddy was hatched on November 10 in the rented room of Lakshminarayana, nephew of Ramachandraiah. “The gang waylaid Sreenivasa Reddy on November 15 and 19 at Munagal, however he managed to escape,” Mr.Ashok Reddy revealed. In a meticulous plan, Veeraswamy gave lift to Sreenivasa Reddy and his friend Brahmam on a two-wheeler on the fateful day. According to the plot, Veerasamy reportedly slowed down the vehicle near the car in which the gang was waiting between Mukundapuram and Aakupamula. Taking advantage of the situation, the gang axed Sreenivasa Reddy to death and Veeraswamy fled from the scene along with the killers, the DSP said.
