Increased number of students enrol in Intermediate Board prescribes 800 students per examination centre Sangareddy: In view of the increased enrolment in Intermediate this academic year the Medak district is seeking more examination centres to ease congestion in examination halls. While 16,200 students enrolled during 2006-2007, the number rose to 21,900 this year. The board prescribes 800 students per examination centre forcing some students to sit on the ground and even in the corridors of the centres to take the examinations. The college managements remove tables to accommodate more students per centre. Speaking to The Hindu the Regional Inspection officer of the Board of Intermediate here C. Sharada told that her office has prepared proposals for 67 centres this year, compared to the 59 centres it had last year. The final number of the centres would only be decided at the State-wide RIO’s meet in Hyderabad on December 4. Out of the proposed centers 14 have been recognised as hypersensitive. They are Government Junior Colleges in Sadasivapet and Medak, Geetha and Wesley in Medak, Government Junior College and APTWR Junior College in Narsapur, Government Junior and the APSWR Junior Colleges in Narayankhed, Government Junior College in Shankarampet, Sneha Junior, Government Junior and Sai Krupa Junior Colleges in Ramayampet, Government Junior Colleges in Kohir and Dubbaka. The RIO said that almost 70 per cent of syllabus has been completed in all the Government colleges and the students are preparing for the third unit test. She said that 16 colleges out of the 33 Government colleges have registered pass percentages below 35 and they have been put under scanner. These colleges have to conduct daily examinations and submit the daily report to the District Vocational Officer for evaluation. These colleges have to conduct reading hours either in the morning or the evening. Last year 3,900 first year Intermediate students of Government colleges in the district appeared the examination and only 38.56 per cent passed the examination. Similarly 42.69 per cent of second year students out of 3,420 passed.
