33,000 new ration cards to be issued after verification

Staff Reporter

To be issued through 11 DPL centres

Sangareddy: Medak Joint Collector Ramshankar Nayak addressing the district food advisory committee meeting at the Zilla Parishad conference hall here on Thursday said that new ration cards would be issued to applicants through 11 DPL centres in the district.

He said that there were 33,000 applications for ration cards but they would be issued only after thorough verification through Tahsildars. However, the applicants have to pay Rs. 60 in the concerned centre to avail a card. The committee has resolved to supply two litres of kerosene for Deepam gas holders and also to urge the Civil Supplies Department to provide enough quota of Rs. 9 rice to the district.

The committee also resolved to allow supply of 3 kilograms of sugar for white and 5 kilograms for the pink ration card, looking at the surplus stocks of sugar. Interested families who want to apply for a ration card could do so by paying Rs. 10 at the concerned Tahasildar’s Office.

ZP Chairman M. Balaiah urged the officers to respond to the needs of the common man. District Supplies Officer Subba Rao was told to initiate action on the ration dealers who divert quota kerosene to the black market.

On the other hand, dealers association president Naikoti Raju alleged that supplies are reaching after a month even though they pay the demand draft on time. He urged the committee to ensure supply of goods before 15 of every month. He demanded better commission, proportionate sale of all pulses and cereals and supply of rice produced in the State.

Member of Legislative Council V. Bhoopal Reddy, ZP CEO Suresh Babu and Revenue Officers attended the meeting.
