Lok Satta to have Ombudsmen

HYDERABAD: Former Chief Secretary and State Election Commissioner K. Madhava Rao and a retired judge of High Court Reddappa Reddy on Thursday took over as Ombudsmen of Lok Satta party to monitor its activities.
A jurist from Telangana to join them shortly will complete the three-member panel. It will have a five- year-term and function independent of the party from a separate premises at Panjagutta here, Lok Satta coordinator Jayaprakash Narayan told a news conference on Thursday.
Dr. Narayan said this was the first time in the country that any political party appointed ombudsmen to guide it in all matters. He also said the Ombudsmen were not members of the party and their functioning would be apolitical. A meeting of general council of Lok Satta on December 2 would discuss amendment to the party constitution to institute the system of Ombudsmen.
