Permanent ‘minority status’ for old schools

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The Government has decided to issue permanent ‘minority status’ certificates to ‘famous, old and established’ minority schools and colleges in the State run by governing bodies/trusts formed with members from minority communities.

Minorities Welfare Minister Mohd. Ali Shabbir told reporters that some of these institutions were claiming minority status while selling seats to others.

He said a cell would be set up in the department for Christian minority institutions.

The demand for permanent minority status certificates to famous Christian educational institutions was made by their heads at a meeting organised by the Commission for Education of AP Bishops Council (APBC) here recently.
