TDP demands recovery of amounts from contractors
HYDERABAD: The Telugu Desam Party on Thursday demanded the Government to recover the amounts which were ‘misused and undue benefits’ extended to contractors in Yellampalli and other irrigation projects built across Godavari in the wake of an indictment by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India.
The party’s polit bureau which met under the chairmanship of its president, N. Chandrababu Naidu urged the Government to protect ‘public money’ and recover Rs.359 crore from the contractor of Yellampalli and other amounts from contractors of remaining projects. To press for its demand, the TDP has decided to organise dharnas and rallies in front of all district headquarters on December 7.
Addressing a press conference, senior TDP leaders Y. Ramakrishnudu and Kadiyam Srihari said if the Government failed to respond, the party would submit a memorandum to Governor N. D. Tiwari on December 9, ‘International Day Against Corruption’.
Subsequently, the future course of action on the issue would be chalked out at the general body meeting of the party on December 10.
Claiming that the CAG report had vindicated TDP stand, they criticised Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy and Major Irrigation Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah for trying to find fault with CAG and described it as “undemocratic”.
