PM, Sonia to lead campaign in Gujarat

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress president Sonia Gandhi and general secretary Rahul Gandhi will lead the party’s election campaign in Gujarat, with the India-U.S. nuclear deal being one of the high points.

Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi said the party was geared to oust the Modi government and also return to power in Himachal Pradesh. Ms. Gandhi will address a rally in Himachal Pradesh on Monday.

“The party will mount an aggressive campaign to see the exit of the person [Narendra Modi] who has overstayed his welcome,” he said.

Collective decision

Mr. Singhvi said the Congress would not project anyone as chief ministerial candidate in Himachal Pradesh. As per the “established norm, the legislators would collectively decide on their leader subject to approval by the high command.”
