MCD recovers encroached land

NEW DELHI: The drive launched by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to uproot encroachers from Government land got a fresh impetus on Thursday with the civic body reclaiming nearly eight acres of land in the Dilshad Garden area.

According to Shahadra (North) Zone Deputy Commissioner A. K. Singh, the MCD retrieved nearly eight acres of municipal land at the Tahirpur Complex near Dilshad Garden from encroachers. This land was being illegally occupied by land sharks who had constructed semi-concrete and “kuchha” structures, jhuggis and make-shift toilets on the site.

Mr Singh said: “We removed 60 hutments, 35 concrete structures, 15 ‘khokhas’ and 10 toilets that had been illegally constructed on Government land. Assistance was also provided by two companies and one battalion of the police. ”
