‘UGC admits circular was an error’
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: The University Grants Commission has “admitted” that a circular declaring a bar on any fresh disbursal of Rs.3,000/Rs.5,000 fellowships for research scholars of Central universities was “an error” and that it would send a fresh notification to all universities amending its earlier order, the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union claimed on Thursday.
“The UGC gave a significant retraction, admitting that the earlier circular was an error. It would also send a fresh circular to all universities by Monday amending its earlier order and categorically stating that the Rs. 3,000/Rs.5,000 fellowships would not be stalled,” said JNUSU president Sandeep Singh after meeting UGC Chairman Sukhdeo Thorat and his team.
