Kendriya Vidyalaya is No. 1

VISAKHAPATNAM: Kendriya Vidyalaya No.1 at Sri Vijaya Nagar (104 Area) bagged a ‘Certificate of Excellence’ from the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sanghatan (KVS), New Delhi.
Announcing this at a press conference on Friday, Principal A.V.L. Jagannadha Rao said that the award was given in recognition of the excellent achievement of the school in academics. KVS takes into account the performance of students of Std. X and Std. XII for the last three years in the selection of schools for the award.
He said that over 50 per cent of the students who had appeared for Std. XII and over 40 per cent of those who had appeared for Std. X Board Examinations had secured 75 per cent and above marks during the last four years.
He said that the strength of the school was its teachers. The authorities had sanctioned one more computer lab to the school in addition to the existing ones. Broadband connection has been given to the labs to provide access to students to a wealth of information on the Internet. He thanked the Managing Committee Chairman Commodore Panpalia and KVS, Hyderabad Region Assistant Commissioner, Vijayalakshmi for their support.
Mr. Rao said that of the 35 students who had passed their Std. XII examination this year, four students were selected for NDA, four in AIEEE, one in IIT, one in medicine and about 15 students got ranks in EAMCET. He said that emphasis was given to make students understand the concept rather than making them by-heart the lessons.
