Man kills son, commits suicide

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: A businessman allegedly murdered his 21-year-old son, a BBM student who had taken to drinking and gambling, and later committed suicide at his house in D Block, 2nd Stage, Rajajinagar, on Wednesday.

The police said that for the past few months Ananthakrishna (51) was upset with his son Abhishek as he returned home drunk every day and frequently quarrelled with his neighbours. Besides, Abhishek, a second year BBM student of Seshadripuram College, was into gambling.

On Wednesday night, Ananthakrishna advised his son to give up his bad habits and concentrate on his studies. When an inebriated Abhishek started quarrelling with his father, his uncles living next door intervened and pacified him.

Later, around 10.30 p.m., Ananthakrishna came to Abhishek’s room on the first floor of their house and stabbed him with a knife. Abhishek, who sustained 20 stab wounds, died on the spot, the police said.

Subsequently, Ananthakrishna committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan in the room. The police said he had left a seven-page note stating that he had high hopes about his son but he did not live up to his expectations. He had requested his family to bury his body next to that of his first wife.

According to the police, Ananthakrishna’s wife Meena died six years ago. Later, he married Parvathi and she was taking good care of Abhishek. Ananthakrishna, son of a retired police officer, owned a rice shop in Rajajinagar.
