KADUTHURUTHY: The delegates meet of the district conference of the CPI(M) got under way here on Friday with Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan inaugurating the session. Addressing the 270 delegates drawn from the 12 ‘areas’ of the party in the district, the Chief Minister said his government could give a befitting reply to those who dubbed him and the Left as those who were against development. The successful conclusion of the talks for the Smart City project and the inauguration of the National Waterway would go a long way in taking the State on the development path, he said. He said the government was trying to set up IT parks in more places. While the State government was of opinion that a lasting solution to the agrarian crisis lay with policy changes, especially the export-import policies of the Central government, it has not desisted from making use of the various agriculture packages being designed by the Central government. In the areas of Health, Power, Fisheries and Industry too the government could put in commendable performance, he said. The Chief Minister stressed on the need for transparency and said complaints, if any, regarding the Chief Minister or Ministers should be brought before the government so that corrective measures could be initiated. At the organisational front, he hoped the delegates would discuss their experiences at the respective branch, local and area level at the district conference. State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan released a CD of revolutionary songs.
