Haryana approves free plots for BPL families

Eligibility to be determined as per rural department’s survey


100 square yard residential plots to be given

to Scheduled Caste and BPL families

Government to also provide loans for construction to be done within five years


Chandigarh: The Haryana Cabinet on Friday approved the policy to allot 100 square yard residential plots, free of cost, to eligible Scheduled Caste families and those families living below poverty line.

According to the policy, the eligibility of the family would be determined as per the BPL survey conducted by Rural Development Department during the year 2007 and one family would be considered as one unit.

An official spokesman said that in addition, the eligible family should be a resident of the concerned village, should not own a house or plot measuring 100 sq. yards or more and should not be an income tax payee.

Eligibility criteria

He added the beneficiary also should not have any gainful employment in the government or semi-government establishment, industry, commercial establishment, society etc. and should not have earlier been allotted any plot of 100 sq. yards or more by the panchayat or government under any scheme.

He said that a village level committee consisting of concerned village Sarpanch, Patwari, Gram Sachiv, head of the government school, Lambardar belonging to SC/BC category will be constituted to identify the eligible families. Common land in 4,968 villages had been identified for allotment of plots to the beneficiaries whose number was yet to be worked out, the spokesman said.

The government would also provide loan for construction on the plot to be done within five years of allotment. — PTI
