Narendra Modi AHMEDABAD: The Gujarat government will oppose the Jansangharsha Manch’s demand to summon Chief Minister Narendra Modi and others for cross-examination. This was stated by government pleader T.S. Nanavati to the G.T. Nanavati and K.G. Shah commission, probing the Godhra train carnage and the post-Godhra communal riots in 2002. Appearing before the commission on Friday, Mr. Nanavati said the government would submit its objections in writing opposing any move to summon Mr. Modi, the then Minister of State for Home Gordhan Jhadafiya and others for cross-examination. The commission gave the government time till December 26, well after the Assembly elections (to be completed by December 23), to file its objections. Analysis of CDsThe demand was made by the Manch on the basis of an analysis of the two compact discs (CDs) of list of numbers called to and from the mobile phones during the peak riot period. Asked by the commission what the locations of the mobile numbers indicated, Manch advocate Mukul Sinha claimed that the selected 43 numbers held by Mr. Modi, Mr. Jhadafiya, and several senior administrative and police officers, showed their close proximity to the sites of the major riot incidents, particularly Naroda-Patiya and Gulberg Society, and their constant conversation with one another. He claimed that the locations of the mobile numbers clearly indicated collusion with the rioters and should be summoned for cross-examination to establish the truth.
