Pranab Mukherjee to visit Dhaka today
Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI: External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee is visiting Dhaka on Saturday to express India’s solidarity with the cyclone victims.
A severe cyclone on November 15 resulted in heavy loss of life and widespread destruction in Bangladesh.
India has already pledged assistance to Bangladesh with “a sense of urgency,” according to Foreign Office spokesperson Navtej Sarna.
Mr. Mukherjee will meet Bangladesh Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed and Foreign Adviser Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury. He will also survey some cyclone-affected areas and meet the victims.
Over the last few days Indian Air Force aircraft have been delivering medicine, tents, blankets, ready-to-eat meals and portable water-purifiers to Bangladesh. An Il-76 aircraft left New Delhi on Friday afternoon for Dhaka carrying the last consignment of relief supplies.
