Sewage treatment site to be identified for Aranthangi

Staff Reporter

IDENTIFICATION: P. Mariappan, Chairman, Aranthangi Municipality, presenting an identity card to a councillor on Friday.

ARANTHANGI: Pudukottai district administration will identify another site for setting up a sewage treatment plant for the execution of underground drainage scheme for Aranthangi town, Municipal Chairman P. Mariappan said.

Presiding over the regular meeting of Aranthangi Muncipal Council here on Friday, Mr. Mariappan said that a site identified at adjacent Perumalpatti village had been dropped after the villagers protested.

The matter had been referred to Directorate of Municipal Administration and Local Administration Minister M. K. Stalin after a similar problem cropped up in another village.

The municipality was identifying the site, he said.

Earlier, a few councillors wanted to know when the much-awaited underground drainage project would be implemented in the town.

Councillor T. Muthu (DMK) said that the work should be executed without any delay.

When a councillor Inoul Padavia (AIADMK) pointed out that the Old Age Pension (OAP) had not been sanctioned to eligible persons in her ward, the Chairman said that a revised list had been called for the same.

Ms. Padavia complained that the assistance was being disbursed to even a few dead persons.

M. V. Parthiban (BJP) wanted roads to be repaired in his ward.

Many councillors pleaded for the supply of kerosene to fresh card-holders. The Chairman gave away identity cards to the councillors. The State Government had directed all the municipalities to issue the ID cards, he added.
