Shows keen interest: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati looks at the photographs of the power projects which she dedicated to the State at her residence in Lucknow on Friday. Also seen are Satish Chandra Mishra (left), chairman of UP Advisory Council, and Ramveer Upadhya, Energy Minister.

LUCKNOW: Chief Minister Mayawati on Friday dedicated to the State a new 210-megawatt Unit No.4 of Parichha thermal power station in Jhansi district built at a cost of Rs.1,750 crore. Four 132-KV and 33-KV power transmission sub-stations built in Faizabad, Puwayan (Shahjahanpur) and Gangoh (Saharanpur) were also inaugurated by the Chief Minister at a function held at her official residence.

Besides, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stones for the 500-MW (2X210 MW) Parichha thermal power project and 500-MW (2X250 MW) Harduaganj power station in Bulandshahr district to be built at a combined cost of Rs.3,800 crore. She also laid the foundation of eight transmission sub-stations of 132 KV and 220 KV capacity which would be constructed at Noida, Greater Noida, Varanasi, Jhansi and Saharanpur. These will be built at an estimated cost of around Rs.600 crore.

Asserting that availability of power was essential for development and industrialisation of Uttar Pradesh, the Chief Minister said an additional 1250 MW of power would be created during the current financial year and an action plan was being prepared for generating around 10,000 MW of power by the end of the 11th Five Year Plan.

The Chief Minister blamed the previous governments for its power woes and for failing to take concrete steps to increase the generation capacity.

With the 500 MW units of Parichha and Harduaganj likely to begin production by 2010, there would be no scarcity of electricity, she said.

Ms. Mayawati recalled that a memorandum of understanding was signed recently between the State Government and the public sector NTPC to set up the 1320-MW joint venture power project in Meja, in Allahabad district. She emphasised that her Bahujan Samaj Party regime was committed to ending the power crisis by the year 2012.

She said all the lanes of one Nagar Panchayat in all the districts and four wards of each Nagar Palika and Municipal Corporation would be electrified in the current financial year under the Manyawar Shri Kanshiramji Shahri Samagra Vikas Yojana ( Kanshi Ram Urban Integrated Development Programme ).
