Flying High: Lt. Commander Rashmi Singh doing a sky-diving demonstration as part of the Navy Mela 2007 at Kochi Naval Base on Friday. KOCHI: Vice Admiral Sunil K. Damle, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command, inaugurated the Naval Mela 2007 at Kochi Naval Base here on Friday. The entire base wore a festive look with colourful flags. The exhibition as part of the Mela provided a rare opportunity for the public to have a look at guns, diving equipment, weapons, various types of armament and ammunition, torpedoes and fire-fighting equipment from different training schools in the base. Also on display were models of ships and submarines, communication systems, and telescopes. Lieutenant Commander Rashmi Singh gave a demonstration of sky-diving as part of the inauguration. She and her husband Commander Rajiv Ashok are officers posted at the Naval Base and both are sky-diving experts. They will give sky-diving displays at 12 noon and 5 p.m. The Mela will be open to public till Sunday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Static display of aircraft and helicopters and ships will be open to public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Amusement park, with fun, games and joy rides and food stalls have also been set up. The naval personnel also undertook a two-day social service at Sneha Bhavan, Palluruthy. A medical and eye camp was also held at Rhima De-addiction Centre, Chellanam, by INS Dronacharya.
