Staff Reporter

13-year-old gave birth to a girl

Thiruvananthapuram: The Fort police have arrested a 40-year-old man on the charge of raping his 13-year-old daughter.

An official identified the suspect as Radhakrishnan, a scrap dealer.

The case came to light when the minor gave birth to a girl at a private hospital in the city on Friday.

Circle Inspector (Fort) Gopakumar said the suspect had raped his daughter when his wife was away early this year.

He said the mother, a private money lender, was away from home for several days to tend her son who was admitted to a private hospital. The couple have three children, two of them boys.

The police said the girl was obese and the family did not recognise any sign of pregnancy in her.

The girl was admitted to the private hospital early on Friday after she complained of severe stomach pain. She was delivered of a child shortly.

The suspect will be produced before the court on Saturday.
