KOCHI: The State-level empowered committee chaired by Chief Secretary P.J. Thomas on Friday approved the price fixed for the land to be acquired for laying rail link for the proposed Vallarpadam International Container Transhipment Terminal. The District-Level Purchase Committee (DLPC) chaired by District Collector A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish in consultation with the landowners had already fixed the price of land to be acquired for the project spread over four villages. This was approved at a meeting of the empowered committee in Thiruvananthapuram. This, along with the rehabilitation package for the displaced for the rail link would be placed before the Cabinet meeting scheduled for December 6. Revenue Principal Secretary Nivedita P. Haran, Fast Track Project Secretary Gyanesh Kumar and Mr. Hanish attended the meeting. The rail link passes through four villages — Cheranalloor, Mulavukad, Edappally North and South. Of the 101 landowners in Vaduthala, 76 have already given consent letters for acquisition. The highest price fixed by DLPC in Mulavukad is Rs.3.22 lakh per cent, whereas the lowest price was Rs.1.65 lakh per cent. In Cheranalloor village, the prices fixed were Rs.5.24 lakh and Rs.1.05 lakh respectively. In Edappally north, the highest value fixed was Rs.3.06 lakh, while the lowest price was Rs.2.37 lakh. In Edappally south, the prices were Rs.2.37 lakh and Rs.98,611.
