Manipal: Anna-Kaisa Heikkinen, Second Secretary, Embassy of Finland, New Delhi, said on Friday that the “Museum of Folk Arts” was preserving not just the heritage of Karnataka or India, but the world. She was speaking after inaugurating the “Museum of Folk Arts” at the “Heritage Village”, here. Ms. Heikkinen said that providing support to the museum was a “great honour for the Finnish Government. Many idols and rare articles have been brought from different parts of the country and saved in the museum”. “This museum is the result of hard work and dedication of the secretary of Hasta Shilpa Trust, Vijaynath Shenoy, which should be appreciated. This only goes to show that small deeds can have big effect and the world can be changed,” she said. Ms. Heikkinen said that she had visited the heritage village for the first time in April 2005. “I have seen the museum today. It is an humbling and special moment to be here,” she added. In his welcome address, Mohandas Pai of the “Hasta Shilpa Trust” said that this was the first museum to be opened at the heritage village. A series of museums would be opened at the village in the coming days, he added. The public would be allowed to visit these galleries and other buildings in the heritage village after the completion of project which is scheduled by the end of next year, Mr. Pai said. Rajesh Pai proposed a vote of thanks. Mr. Vijaynath Shenoy took Ms. Heikkinen around the museum and narrated the historical significance of various articles there.
