Murali warns of stern action against dissidence

Staff Reporter

ALAPPUZHA: K. Muraleedharan, president, Nationalist Congress Party State unit, has said that stringent action will be taken against leaders of the party who stay away from its State committee meeting on Saturday. He told presspersons at Haripad, near here, on Friday that no explanations would be asked before taking action.

On some leaders meeting Mr. Karunakaran on Friday, he said: “Some of them told me that Mr. Karunakaran had invited them for today’s meeting. I am of the opinion that there is nothing wrong in such a meeting.” he [Mr. Karunakaran] being such a senior leader.”

But no one should stay away from the meeting, he said, which will take decisions on factional politics in the party.

“So far, only two leaders have resigned their posts in the NCP. They are Kodoth Govindan Nair, who quit the NCP State vice-president’s post, and Ibrahimkutty Kallar, who stepped down as the Nationalist Youth Congress State president. But these two, and Mr. Karunakaran as well, are yet to resign from the party.”

He said no action had been taken against Mr. Karunakaran.
