Naidu writes to PM on Indians in UAE
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD: Leader of Opposition N. Chandrababu Naidu on Friday urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to take up with authorities in the United Arab Emirates the issue of two NRIs from Armoor (Nizamabad district) being sentenced to death.
In a letter to Dr. Singh, the Telugu Desam Party president said four others from the State were sentenced to three years imprisonment in Sharjah on ‘foisted’ charges. The situation was alarming enough for the Prime Minister to intervene in the matter.
All the NRIs were in their 30s and had gone to West Asia for their livelihood four years ago.
The reports of authorities having their confession statements apart, their associates and family members believed they were innocent, Mr. Naidu said.
The situation warranted sympathetic consideration and proper legal procedures including moving appeals in higher courts for their honourable acquittal, he stated.
