CHENNAI: A new building to house the office of the Pollution Control Board’s District Environmental Engineer and a laboratory was opened by Electricity Minister N. Veeraswamy at Arumbakkam here on Friday.
The four-storey building, spread over 4.20 grounds, was constructed by the Public Works Department at a cost of Rs.1.68 crore.
Board Chairman N. Sundaradevan said the Board had established offices in 25 districts and had 13 laboratories. New buildings would come up in Kancheepuram (Rs.1.25 crore) and Tuticorin (Rs.1.46 crore).
Environment Minister T.P.M. Mohideen Khan handed over the keys of vehicles allocated to seven districts.
R. Rajagopal, Secretary, Environment and Forests, and R. Ramachandran, Member- Secretary (in-charge) of the Board, were present.
