Jayalalithaa’s charge against Government

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam on Friday charged the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam Government with “maintaining poorly,” Tuticorin and North Chennai thermal power stations.

In a statement, party general secretary Jayalalithaa attributed the shortage in power supply to “poor maintenance” of the stations and “negligence” of the Chief Minister and Electricity Minister. The loss of wind energy was not unexpected.

She claimed that when faced with similar situations during the AIADMK regime, the supply was ensured by drawing power from alternative sources. When the AIADMK was in power during 2001-2006, the capacity addition was 2,047 MW. Besides, over 25,000 transformers were installed.

To highlight the need for urgent action on the part of the Government, the AIADMK would organise demonstrations at the levels of union, town and municipal corporation from December 3 to 7.
